SURGERY
Surgeries at the clinic include common procedures such as spay and neuter,* orthopedic surgery on simple fractures, and soft tissue surgeries such as lacerations and tumor/growth removal.
Both doctors are skilled in a wide range of surgeries, and will refer to a board-certified specialist for more complicated injuries and procedures whenever it is deemed best for the animal’s situation.
Dr. McClendon is adept at knee repair for anterior cruciate ligament injuries, a common injury particularly in dogs.
Large animal surgeries such as cattle reproductive emergencies, equine injuries, castrations, and lacerations are all handled at the clinic.
Both farm animals and pets receive excellent care, and owners will be guided in the best ways to keep their animals healthy.
The clinic uses a reliable, safe gas anesthesia in conjunction with injections, as appropriate for your animal. Pre-surgical blood work is also done to ensure your animal’s condition for safe surgery.
*NOTE: Spaying and neutering your pet is an important act of kindness, preventing puppies and kittens from being dumped to care for themselves (where they often suffer and die painfully, are hit by cars, and generally live a poor life), or are put into a shelter where, if no one adopts them, they may be put to sleep. Help prevent this unnecessary suffering. Please spay or neuter your puppies and kittens.

CHECK-UP
An annual physical examination is the best step in helping your animal stay healthy. This includes a total body review from tip of nose to tip of tail. |

PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
Because of the more rapid aging (compared to man) of animals and because they can't "tell us where it hurts" the annual examination is the first step in preventative medicine. As needed vaccinations, heartworm control and blood tests aid in prevention of health problems. |

LABORATORY
We offer extensive in-house lab work, including blood chemistry, CBC (complete blood count), and testing for heartworm, internal/external parasites, giardia, parvo virus, pancreatitis, thyroid, diabetes, antifreeze toxicity, and feline leukemia. We do pre-surgical blood work in-house as well.
For testing that is not available in-house, we work with a lab that offers quick (usually 24-hour) results.
All of this allows us to get accurate results usually within minutes so we can diagnose and help animals that are suffering, and start appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
Giving help as soon as possible often leads to a quicker recovery, and lessens the stress on you, the animal’s owner.

PHARMACY
Most of the medicines prescribed for your animal are available at the clinic, saving you the time and effort of stopping at another pharmacy. This gives us confidence that your animal receives the correct prescription for their condition as soon as possible.
We also carry heartworm medication, and treatments for flea and tick prevention.
Part of our treatment plan often includes nutrition. We carry products that are appropriate for specific problems, like allergies, in a food line that gives most animals good results.

DENTISTRY
Good dental health for your pet is a crucial part of their well being, helping them to live well and longer.
You may not know that the health of your pet’s teeth and gums influence their body’s major organs, especially the heart and kidneys.
How do you take care of their teeth? Starting at a young age, puppies and kittens can easily learn to enjoy having their teeth brushed. What they eat is important, and your vet will give you recommendations for good quality nutrition and treats that can prevent dental problems.
Beginning at 3 – 5 years of age, an annual exam will include your pet’s teeth. Each animal is different; for some, a professional cleaning may be needed every 1 – 2 years. Cats and small dogs in particular often need regular help with their teeth…but so can larger dogs. A check-up will determine your animal’s needs.
In some cases, a tooth needs to be extracted, which requires anesthia. The clinic uses a reliable, safe gas anesthesia in conjunction with injections, as appropriate for your animal. Pre-surgical blood work is also done to ensure your animal’s condition for a safe surgery.
Good dental health is a major part of your pet’s health and wellbeing; whatever your pet’s age, have their teeth checked and get the information you need to take good care of their teeth…and their health.
